Description
HEVC Video Extensions — H.265 support for Windows
HEVC Video Extensions by Microsoft adds system components for playing and producing High Efficiency Video Coding content, also known as H.265. After installation, compatible Windows apps such as Photos, Media Player, and software built on Media Foundation can use the codec.
What the extension provides
- HEVC/H.265 decoding in compatible applications;
- 4K and Ultra HD support on suitable hardware;
- hardware acceleration on modern processors and GPUs;
- software decoding when no HEVC hardware block is available;
- HEVC encoding on devices without a hardware encoder.
System requirements
The Microsoft Store specifies Windows 10 version 16299.0 or later. Smooth high-resolution playback benefits from a modern GPU with HEVC hardware support and a current graphics driver. With software decoding, performance depends on resolution and CPU capability.
No standalone interface
This is a codec rather than a player or conventional desktop app. Once installed, it operates inside the Windows media platform and has no independent user interface. The page therefore uses the only official product artwork supplied by Microsoft Store.
Version and purchase
The source list named version 2.4.43.0. Microsoft Store installs the current package for the device and updates it automatically; the public Store listing does not expose the active package version. Price and availability vary by region.
