7‑Zip — a free archiver with a high compression ratio
7‑Zip by Igor Pavlov creates 7z, ZIP, TAR, and WIM archives, extracts dozens of common formats, and integrates with the Windows context menu. Its native 7z format uses LZMA/LZMA2 and supports multithreaded processing.
Main features
- create 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, WIM, and XZ archives;
- extract RAR, ISO, CAB, MSI, VHD, DMG, and many other formats;
- AES‑256 encryption for 7z and ZIP;
- self-extracting 7z archives;
- an integrated file manager and command-line tools;
- Windows Explorer integration;
- multi-volume archives and integrity testing;
- interface translations for many languages.

Version 26.02 was released on June 25, 2026. The developer reports fixes for bugs and vulnerabilities, making it a recommended update from earlier builds.
License and authenticity
Most source code is under GNU LGPL; selected components use BSD 3-Clause, while RAR extraction code has a separate restriction. The project’s official Windows installer is not digitally signed, so the download entry includes the SHA-256 of the file retrieved from the official ip7z/7zip repository.
